A young father who was doused in petrol and set on fire by his jilted ex risked his life in one last heroic act in the blaze that claimed his life.
Sarah Mudge, 31, broke into the home of her ex-boyfriend Stanley Obi, 33 in New Beith, south of Brisbane, early on Thursday and set him alight, a day after a court awarded him custody of their kids.
The mother-of-four was unable to escape before flames engulfed the home.
Mr Obi's new girlfriend, 30, and three children aged under five managed to flee the burning home with only minor injuries.
Neighbours managed to drag a critically-injured Mr Obi from the home before he was rushed to hospital suffering 90 per cent of burns to his body. He succumbed to his injuries 17 hours later.
One of Mr Obi's children was sleeping next to their father at the time of the fire, but managed to escape the flames when the fire started.
Mr Obi, a nurse, heroically helped his child to safety and escape unharmed moments before the inferno took hold of the home.
An outpouring of tributes for Mr Obi continues following his death.
'As a community, we are rallying together to provide support where we can to Mr Obi's family and members of our community,' the Nigerian Community Association of Queensland said.
'Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to the families in Australia and overseas.'
The community gathered on Sunday to hold a memorial service organised by neighbours Kam and Pana Lal, who were the first to reach the blaze.
'It's a message that we're all here for each other even if a lot of people didn't know the family,' another neighbour, Gloria Mavugata, told the ABC.
Mr Lal added: 'It's all about getting people together to grieve Stan and support all those affected by this tragedy.'
Police have completed their three day forensic examination of the gutted home.
'We are going to be closing down the crime scene now,' Detective Darren Ward said.
'It's been handed over back to the insurance company... We'll just be notifying the neighbours of the situation to date and heading off.'
According to a fundraiser set up by Mr Obi's family, Mudge's horrific act of violence was triggered when she lost access to three of her four children on Wednesday.
In a Facebook mothers' group, Mudge threatened to kill Mr Obi, if he 'took the baby from me'.
'F**k that, he did not try to do this, because its (sic) just not an option, I'd have killed him,' she wrote about the family dispute.
In a separate post made by another mother asking if she should let a family member cut her child's hair, Mudge replied: 'you could add a ps. ''cut her hair and I'll cut your throat''.
Both Mudge and Mr Obi are understood to have applied for domestic violence orders against each other before the fire.
In other bizarre social media posts, Mudge said if she and her kids ended up dead it would be murder, and urged online users to point the finger at Mr Obi if anything were to happen - claiming it wouldn't be an 'accident'.
'When we are gone, make sure everyone knows,' she told users of the domestic violence social media group on December 1.
'When you see my name and my kids names, make sure they know I told everyone.
'It's not an accident. I won't suicide with my kids, or whatever he does. It's him. It will be him.'
