Misery On Campus (Season 1, Episode 3 & 4)

EPISODE THREE

Deep in thoughts in the bus as favour's mind was going through a number of issues to meet at home. She imagined her younger brother running to her and saying things like, "Aunty favour I've not eaten since last night. And mum and dad fought yesterday. Aunty favour I want to go back to school so I need money" Those were her thoughts...

She cried her eyes and felt asleep in the bus, and the next moment passengers started to Alight from the bus.

" Hello young lady we're at the Last bus stop" a young man tapped favour who was deep In sleep. "Oh! She exclaimed thank you sir . She hastily Alighted from the bus and went down to the park in search of a Cab to take her to her junction. She was Left with just #200 but all the Cab she's been stopping for the past one hour were calling prices of 250naira so she was stranded as night came closer. As God may have it she luckily sighted her mum's close friend and ran to meet her with a heart rest assured that she could help her with enough money to take a cab. The woman, mama Nneka hugged favour tightly as she remembered how well mannered she is despite her poor and discouraging background. They boarded a taxi and headed home together.

On reaching home her siblings Emma and christabel sighted her from the window without thinking much or considering how tired their big Sis would be they jumped on her body with tremendous joy and laughter. She carried them and told them how much she loves and misses them admist tears. She barely had strength to lift any of them up properly ,they are all grown up.

Emma was in SS1 and 14 years of age while christabel was 12 years and I JSS2 . She teased them on how big they have become. She took them inside and ran to hug her mum who was looking so sick but trying to smile and favour understood perfectly. She asked the whereabouts of her dad and her mum replied "as usual in the bar "

She sighed and went straight to her room to sleep after a stressful journey. She didn't even have the appetite to eat. She had barely closed her eyes when her favorite friend Adanna called to check up on her to know if she has gotten to her destination.They chatted a little bit and she fell asleep....

EPISODE FOUR

On the second day of Favour at home, Favour's mother couldn't control herself. The tears in her eyes were continually rolling as she remembered the last peaceful night discussion with her husband. She sighed with these thoughts, "He turned a drunkard because of hard times and things were not working well for him. He had a handwork but it was not as lucrative as it were not enough to feed and sustain the family and now he is gone."

The report said that he was coming back from his usual joint and was extremely drunk that he hit his head against an iron and bleed to death with no one around to help. Favour became so depressed that she was diagnosed to have had depression after she heard of the sad news and was immediately rushed to psychiatric hospital meanwhile her two siblings were Left with their mum and other relatives who came around to comfort the household for the great loss.

Two weeks after, Favour had recovered and was back to her senses. She was discharged free of charge and was driven home by the hospital's vehicle and was bidden farewell by the caring nurses, she walked into the house and saw the weary looks on her mum and her younger siblings. She tried fighting back her tears but she walked to her mum and sat beside her. She said, "Mum you going to be fine I promise trust me and God."

She hugged her mum tightly as she talk on her mum's body with tears.   "I will take care of you all as long as I live and I love you mum", she said with a tiny weak voice

" I love you too dear" her mum replied listening a little. She cleaned up the tears in her mum's eyes and tried smiling a bit ordering for her younger ones to come and hug her. She told them they are going to be fine and they will return to school soon. They hugged one another and food was prepared.

Later that afternoon, Her intimate Friend, Adanna called to tell her the news that a 2-months strike has been declared and there was no need to resume back to school as already scheduled.  Favour was very happy as such that an opportunity to work and make both ends meet has been given to her.

She told adanna about the departure of her Dad. Adanna gave her words of encouragement and she regained strength after the phone call.
